- 1310: Bishop Bek granted a charter to Stockton-on-Tees allowing a Wednesday market, which continues today.
- 1569; Hartlepool portl captured during the Rebelion of the Northern Earls.
18th Century
- 7th November 1728: Captain James Cook born in Marton, Middlesbrough
- 21st December 1799; birth of John Vaughan, industrialist and ironmaster
19th Century
- 1802: building of the Zetland, now the world's oldest surviving lifeboat, located in Redcar.
- 8th December 1806; birth of Henry Bolckow, industrialist and founding father of Middlesbrough.
- 27th September 1825; opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
- 1829: Middlesbrough founded, to be a coal exporting port
- June 1831: the first ship was freighted with coal at the new port at Middlesbrough.
- 28th June 1838; opening of the Victoria Bridge rail viaduct over the River Wear near Washington.
- 7th August 1848; the first ironstone mine in Cleveland opened at Skinningrove.
- 1851: Completion of Yarm Railway Viaduct.
- 1860: Building of the Heugh Battery to protect the port of Hartlepool.
- 1865; Camerons Brewery Ltd was founded by John William Cameron in Hartlepool.
- 14th July 1868: birth of Gertrude Bell; archaeologist and one of the founders of modern Iraq.
- 11th August 1868; Albert Park in Middlesbrough opened as a gift to the town from Henry Bolckow.
- 1870: sinking of Skelton Park ironstone mine by the Bell brothers.
- 1876: founding of Middlesbrough Football Club
- 1892; the building of Camerons Lion Brewery was completed in Hartlepool.
- 23rd January 1889: Middlesbrough Town Hall opened by the Prince and Princess of Wales.
20th Century
- 12th September 1903: Middlesbrough FC played their first league game at Ayresome Park.
- 1st July 1904: Opening of the Dorman Memorial Museum in Middlesbrough.
- 17th October 1911; opening of the Tees Transporter Bridge, Middlesbrough, by Prince Arthur of Connaught.
- 16th December 1914; Naval Bombardment of Hartlepool in World War 1
- 1917: opening of the large-scale Steelworks at Redcar by Dorman Long
- 4th January 1922: start of the timber yard fire which devistated large parts of Hartlepool.
- 1927: Heugh Lighthouse bulit on the Headland at Hartlepool.
- 1927; Middlesbrough FC's first title: Second Division champions for 1926-7.
- 2nd July 1930: Opening of Constantine Technical College in Middlesbrough, which developed into Teesside University
- 28 February 1934; opening of the Tees Newport Bridge, which connects Middlesbrough and Stockton, by Prince Albert.
- 3rd June 1953: opening of Preston Park Museum in Stockton-on-Tees
- 22nd October 1957: Middlesbrough Theatre in Linthorpe, opened on by Sir John Gielgud.
- 1966: World Cup hosted in England, including some matches held at Ayresome Park in Middlesbrough.
- 28th October 1978: opening of the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum in Marton, Middlesbrough.
- 1st August 1995; Middlesbrough College created by the merger of Kirby College and Acklam Sixth Form College.
- 5th January 1996: opening of Hartlepool Art Gallery in the former Christ Church.
21st Century
- 30th of May 2000; Middlesbrough Cathederal destroyed by fire.
- 29th February 2004: Middlesbrough FC win the Football League Cup Final, beating Bolton 2-1
- 27th January 2007; opening of the Middlesbrough Institute Of Modern Art (MIMA)
- 14th May 2009; official opening of Infinity Bridge, Stockton.
- 10th June 2010; Anish Kapoor's sculpure Temenos officially presented to the people of Middlesbrough.
- 7th August 2010; the Tall Ships race came to Hartlepool.
- 28th March 2013: Redcar Beacon, 'Verticle Pier' opened to the public.
- October 2015: closure of the SSI steel making plant at Redcar
