Monk Farm

The Monk Farm stands on the east side of the valley of the River West Allen in Northumberland, at the head of a steep slope. It is about ½ mile south-east of Whitfield and 3 miles west of Allendale Town. Recorded as 'le Menke' in 1547, this was by tradition, thought to be an Augustinian cell of Hexham Priory. The range of buildings immediatly north-west of Monk Farmhouse are mainly 16th and 17th century in date, though include some earlier fabric. They are thought to incorporate the remains of a bastle. The buildings north-eastern gable is capped by a dovecote.[1] The range of buildings is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England. To the south of the farm is a Tithe Barn, which is seperately Grade II listed.
