Former Railway Goods Station, London Road, Harraby
This former railway goods station is located on London Road in Harraby, Carlisle. The railway goods sheds and office building were built in 1881, designed by William Bell, architect for North Eastern Railways (NER). As an increasingly rare survival of a large, urban goods station, it is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England. This goods station replaced an earlier passenger station here built in 1836, which was the terminus of the Newcastle & Carlisle Railway, until NER negotiated access to Carlisle Citadel Station in 1863. The original passenger station was demolished in 1881 and replaced with the goods station, which can still be seen today. The former Station Hotel of 1837 can still be seen.
