Podgill Viaduct
Podgill Viaduct is a former railway viaduct over Ladthwaite Beck, located about ½ mile south-east of Kirkby Stephen and ½ mile south of Hartley in Cumbria. The viaduct was built for the South Durham and Lancashire Railway, designed by Thomas Bouch, and completed in 1860. The railway line opened in 1861 and remained open until 1975. Podgill Viaduct was repaired in 2000 and opened to the public as a footpath with grant aid from The European Community European Regional Development Fund, The Railway Heritage Trust Rail Property Ltd., Eden District Council, and the Northern Viaduct Trust. Podgill Viaduct is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
