Lych Gate War Memorial, St Michael's Church, Barton

The lych gate at St Michael's Church in Barton, Cumbria, was built to commemorate the local servicemen who lost their lives in the First Word War. It is inscribed with the name of 12 men from Barton Parish (Barton, Tirril, Pooley Bridge, Sockbridge, Yanwath and Eamont Bridge) - which was larger than todays Barton Civil Parish. The memorial was dedicated by the Bishop of Carlisle on the 20th of November 1920. One of the makers, J. H. Martindale, built several war memorials, including the lych gate war memorials at Wetheral and Skelton.
