Houghton
Houghton is a hamlet in Northumberland, located a short distance west of Heddon on the Wall. The settlement includes two farms, the Houghton Country equestrian centre and a few cottages. It was the location of a medieval village, first documented in 1291.[1] Some of the buildings seen today date from the early 19th century, including the farmhouses of North Farm and South Farm, the Old School House, and 'Merci Beaucoup' (cottage); all of which are listed buildings. Houghton was once part of the Close House Estate; in the 19th Century, Houghton and Close House formed a township in the ancient parish of Heddon-on-the-Wall. Today, Houghton forms part of the Civil Parish of Heddon on the Wall. Houghton Moor Cottages are located almost a mile west along the B6528 road from Houghton.
