Metal milepost on B6528 west of Houghton

  • Description

"The metal milepost is partly hidden in the hedge on the north side of the road. Although it is no longer readable, white paint on the metal plate indicated the distance to Newcastle, 8 miles. The letter N is still visible at the top left and is more visible in the photo from 2005 here http://www.keystothepast.info/article/10339/Site-Details?PRN=N18503 It can only be assumed that this milepost, in comparison with [[2274577]], had lost its original cast-iron shield some time prior to 2005 and the information had been painted on the mounting underneath."
