West Walls (street), Carlisle

West Walls is a street in Carlisle, which runs from Annetwell Street, near Carlisle Castle, heading south down to Victoria Viaduct. The narrow street follows the Medieval West City Walls, of which significant sections can still be seen as far as the Sallyport Steps, beyond that the walls are mostly hidden by buildings, including the West Walls Theatre. There are some notable buildings along West Walls, including the Tithe Barn, parts of which date from the 15th century. St George's URC Church was originally the Grammar School of 1832. Dean Tait's Lane provides a route from West Walls towards the Cathedral Precinct.
