The People's Kitchen

The People's Kitchen is located on Bath Lane / Wellington Street in Newcastle, by Newcastle Helix. This timber-framed building was originally a non-conformist church - a meeting house of the Assemblies of Brethren (Plymouth Brethren). It was built in 1878, designed by Austin Johnson and Hicks. Later, it became a Christian Scientist church - The Second Church of Christ (Scientist). The building now hosts The People’s Kitchen; a charity established by Alison Kay in 1985, after she was shocked by news about the death of a local homeless man. The building is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
