Lune Viaduct at Newbys Dub


The Lune Viaduct at Newbys Dub is located near the hamlet of Waterside and about 1½ miles north-west of Sedbergh. It was built to carry the Tebay-Kirkby Lonsdale railway line over the River Lune. It was constructed 1857-1861, by Joseph Locke and John Errington for the Ingleton branch of the London and North Western Railway Company. The railway line closed in closed in 1966. The former viaduct is Grade II* listed on the National Heritage List for England. The viaduct straddles the civil parishes of Sedbergh and Firbank.
