Church of St Michael, Stanwix


St Michael's Church is located on Church Street in Stanwix, Carlisle. The current building stands on a medieval site, which was previously the location of a Roman Wall fort.[1] Todays church was built 1841-1843 by John Hodgson. The foundation stone was laid on 1st June 1841 and the church opened in 1843, but soon after, the roof was badly damaged in a fire on 21st December 1843. The building was altered in 1893 and extended in 1907. St Michael's Church is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England.
