Church of St Michael and All Angels
The Church of St. Michael and All Angels is the parish church in Newburn. It dates back to the 11th century and it’s oldest parts include it's early Norman west tower. It replaced an earlier church on this site, which burned down in 1067. The chancel is largely 13th century, with 14th/15th century additions, and significant 19th century renovations. The church is a Grade I listed building on the National Heritage List for England. The church's lych gate is seperately Grade II listed. The ancient parish of Newburn covered a wide geographical area. It is also notable that the railway pioneer George Stephenson was married twice in this church.
