Church of St Mary, Heworth


St Mary's is the Anglican parish church for Heworth, Pelaw, Bill Quay and Wardley, to the east of Gateshead, located on Shields Road, near Heworth Metro.[1] The church was built in 1822 by John Stokoek[2], on the site of an ancient church. The 92 men and boys who died in the 1812 disaster at Felling Colliery are buried in the churchyard at St Mary's. The Church of St Mary is a Grade II Listed building.
