Summerhill Square and Park

Summerhill Square is an open space formed around the Georgian terraces of Summerhill Grove, Summerhill Terrace and Ravensworth Terrace / Greenfield Place / Swinburne PlaceSummerhill Park, at the centre of the square, is "a green oasis in the busy city". The park is surrounded by iron railings with entrances on it's north-east and south-west corners. Summerhill Square is the focal point of a Conservation Area and is also on Newcastle City's local list of buildings, structures, parks, gardens and open spaces of special local architectural or historic interest.

It is considered an 'accidental square'; "[When] Greenfield Place & Swinburne Place are built, covenants prevented building any closer than 100yds from the houses on the north side to maintain their value - Summerhill Grove, 1820, is therefore exactly 100yds across the nursery, creating the start of the 'square'."
