Steel Green, Haverigg

Steel Green is a small settlement located about half a mile south of Millom and immediately east of Haverigg. Port Haverigg Holiday Village is located here and Hodbarrow Lagoon and RSPB Hodbarrow nature reserve are close by. The outer sea wall here was built between 1900 and 1905 by the Hodbarrow Mining Co. Ltd. to protect it's iron ore mine from the sea. HerdwickS bistro and guest house here was originally the offices of the Hodbarrow Mining Company, until the company closed in 1968.
