Rutherford Memorial Fountain
The distinctive red sandstone drinking fountain is located at the top of the Bigg Market in Newcastle. It was built by the Band of Hope Union in memory of John Hunter Rutherford, the preacher and educationalist. The fountain was originally located in St. Nicholas Square and was unveiled 12th September 1894 by Joseph Cowen. The fountain was moved to the Bigg Market in 1901. The fountain is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
