There is Roman milestone near Spitals Farm, on the side of the old A66 road between the villages of Kirkby Thore and Temple Sowerby in Cumbria. The milestone, carved from red sandstone, stands to a height of about 1.3m, is believed to stand in its original location. The milestone stands on the parish boundary between Temple Sowerby and Kirkby Thore - provides an illustration of the influence of the Romans on modern administrative boundaries.[1] This is a Scheduled Monument.
