Killingworth Waggonway, Rising Sun Country Park

  • Description

"Rising Sun Country Park is a 160 hectare green oasis within North Tyneside. Many of the North Tyneside waggonways associated with the former coalmining industry have been converted into bridleways and cycle paths. The Killingworth Waggonway from Willington Quay on the Tyne up to Killingworth Colliery dates back to 1764 and is one of the oldest; it was closed in 1942. The many coloured arrows on the post are signposts for various different trails around the Park." Photo by Oliver Dixon and licensed for reuse under a Creative Commons Licence.
