Old Police Station

The old Police Station and former Magistrates Court is located on Laburnum Avenue in Whitley Bay. The police station, complete with custody suite and cells, closed in early 2017. It was one of 25 closed by Northumbria Police in a bid to save up to £46m, in response to repeated funding cut-backs.[1] The Neighbourhood Police Team had already moved into a new, much smaller, base in the Park View shopping centre in October 2016. The old Police Station was built on the site of Whitley Hall, a large house built in c1760 for coal mine owner Henry Hudson (1720-89), which had been demolished in 1899.[2]
