Old Vaux poster
-
Description
Just inside the door was an old poster dating back from the now defunct Vaux Brewery of Sunderland. The brewery was shut down when the board controversially decided that despite owning two profitable breweries, they should shut the whole thing down, sell many of the pubs and concentrating on some hotels. This happened in 1999 and the year after the company was sold to Whitbread, whilst the brewery was torn down for housing. Unlike the company the beer survive having been rescued by some two former Vaux directors and the head brewer who formed a new operation, the Double Maxim Beer Company. Double Maxim was Vaux's flagship ale and features in this poster. (For the sake of accuracy, one Vaux beer remains that was not rescued by Double Maxim – Waggledance was sold to Youngs of London and is now sold under the Charles Wells name) Day 11 on the Coast to Coast blogged about at http://ramblingman.org.uk/coasttocoast/coast_to_coast_day_11" rel="noreferrer nofollow">ramblingman.org.uk/coasttocoast/coast_to_coast_day_11 -
