Old Carlisle City Boundary Stone, Whiteclosegate

There is an old Carlisle City boundary stone by the B6264, outside No. 2 Whiteclosegate, just north of the B6264 junction with Longlands Road. The boundary stone is marked "CC", dated 1912, and has a benchmark carved on top. North of the boundary stone is in Stanwix Rural Civil Parish, whist south of it is in Carlisle. The stone was erected in 1912, when the city boundaries of Carlisle were extended to include much of Stanwix Civil Parish in the north and Botcherby in the east. The remaining part of Stanwix Civil Parish was renamed Stanwix Rural in 1966.

See the similar city boundary stone in Harraby.
