Oakpool, Allendale
Oakpool (aka Oak Pool) is located on Appletree Bank (road), by the west bank of River East Allen, about 2 miles north-west of Allendale Town. Whellan's 1855 directory of Northumberland lists John Blair as farmer at Oak Pool under the greiveship of Keenley in the ancient parish of Allendale.[1] A former bastle is incorporated into the former farmhouse, at the south end of the range of buildings here.[2] Today, Oakpool forms part of Allendale Civil Parish. Photos from Allen Valleys Local History Group show a Scout camp by the river here in the late 1980s, when Oakpool was still a working farmhouse. Oakpool Bridge, over the river, is close to the house.
