Newbiggin Hall, St Cuthbert Without

Newbiggin Hall is located about 3½ miles south of the centre of Carlisle, and at the end of Newbiggin Road, about 1½ miles ast of Durdar. The red sandstone house was built in the late 17th century, incorporating a 14th century pele tower, and extended in the early 19th century. It was formerly a country retreat and grange of the Priors of St Marys, Carlisle. It was given a new facade and converted into a country house in c.1690, and sold by the Church Commissioners in the early 1920's. The Hall is Grade II* listed on the National Heritage List for England.
