Methodist Central Hall, Carlisle


Central Hall on Fisher Street in Carlise was built in 1922 on the site of previous Wesleyan chapels of 1786 and 1834. The present building was designed by by A Brocklehurst and A.W. Hornabrook of Brocklehurst and Co, Manchester and H. E. Ayris of Carlisle, and built by Laings of Carlisle. Later an extension to the Hall was made, with a front on Market Street. Following declining attendance, Central Hall was closed as a place of worship in 2005.

Blue plaque: "John Wesley founder of methodism preached in the Fisher Street Chapel 1788 and 1790."

Plaque: "This church was built during the ministry of Rev G. Bramwell Evens, widley known as author, broadcaster and naturalist, 'Romany' of the BBC."
