Kingmoor Civil Parish
Kingmoor is a civil parish located to the north west of the city of Carlisle. The parish is bordered in the south and west by the River Eden. The parish includes the villages of Cargo, Crindledyke and Stainton. The civil parish was formed in 1858 from what had been the extra-parochial liberty of Kingmoor. Kingmoor Nature Reseve was established in 1914 and is the oldest nature reserve in Cumbria. It was once a continuous strip of woodland over 2km long, stretching northward from Kingmoor Road in Carlisle. The central section of the woodlnd was felled in 1933 by Carlisle County Borough Council to build Kingstown Municipal Airport, which later became RAF Carlisle. Kingmoor North and Kingmoor South Nature Reserves are the remains of the much larger strech woodland before the airfield. Kingmoor Park business park is located on the site of the former RAF Carlisle airfield, which closed at the end of 1947. Kingstown Industrial Estate lies partially within the parish.
