Former White Ox, St Nicholas Street, Carlisle
The former White Ox public hose is located on St Nicholas Street, at the junction with Woodroufe Terrace, in Carlisle. It was built in c.1852, and was acquired by the Carlisle and District State Management Scheme in August 1916, who closed the public house in 1919.[1] The building still has the old plaster sign for the White Ox (painted with later mural), which is a prominent part of the local streetscape. The property is now a private dwelling (No.61 St Nicholas Street) and the corner mural is part of No.11 Woodrouffe Terrace. The terraces of Nos. 5-61 St Nicholas Street and Nos. 1-11 Woodrouffe Terrace are both Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
