Former Board School, Catton

Catton Board School was built in 1879, for the Allendale and West Allen School Board, and funded by the Beaumont family who were local land owners.[1] The school, near the Village Green in Catton, opened on the 26th April 1880 and had two classrooms. The school, later Catton County Primary School, closed in December 1960, and pupils were transferred to Allendale County Primary School.[2] For a time the building served as a Field Study Centre run by Northumberland County Council.[3] The former school is now a private residence.
