Dykesfield

Dykesfield is a hamlet in Cumbria, located about ½mile west of Burgh by Sands and 5½ miles north-west of Carlisle. It is situated south of Burgh Marsh, by the Solway Firth. The hamlet is close to the line of Hadrian's Wall, and Milecastle 73 (named Dykesfield) is thought to be located nearby on Burgh Marsh. Dykesfield (house) here dates from 1748. Dykesfield Bridge, on the road to nearby Longbrugh, is a reminder of when the Carlisle Canal past here. Today, Dykesfield is part of Burgh by Sands Civil Parish and is in the Cumberland Council area.
