Crown Street
Crown Street in Cockermouth runs east from Low Road, past the roundabout for Gote Bridge (aka Derwent Bridge), up to the junction with Sullart Street, after which Crown Street continues on to Main Street. Part of Crown Street forms one section of the A5086 route, which crosses Gote Bridge over the River Derwent. The street has several 18th and 19th century buildings. At the east end of Crown Street are the Trout Hotel and the Manor House Hotel (listed buildings). St Joseph's RC Church here was built in 1856. The former Railway Hotel (closed c.1980), No.28?, still (at 2023) has a prominent Jennings Bros. (brewers) advert painted on it, which can be seen from Gote Bridge. The former Kingfisher Inn (closed c.2018) at No. 14, is now a home.
