Clavering Place

Clavering Place is a street in Newcastle, which runs south from Westgate Road under a railway viaduct down to Tuthill Stairs, which lead down to the Quayside. The street also connects with Forth Street and Hannover Street. On the east side of the street there are Clavering House and Friar House (now Roomzzz Aparthotel), both of which date from the 1780's. On the west side of the street is Roman House, a modern build, student accommodation. In the past there had been a Presbyterian Chapel, by John Green, built in 1822, later used as offices, but this was demolished in 2011, following damage by heavy snow.
