Church of St Mary the Less
The Church of St Mary the Less is located off South Bailey in Durham. It is currently the chapel of St John's College of Durham University. The church was originally founded in 1140 AD, though largely rebuilt in 1847. The church incorporates examples of 17th century woodwork and a 13th century sculpture. The origin of the unusual name of this church ("The Less") is uncertain, it was possibly used to distinguish it from the Cathedral, which is also dedicated to St Mary. The church is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
