Church of St James and St. Basil

St James' and St. Basil's Church in Fenham, Newcastle was built 1927-1931. It is located on the corner of Fenham Hall Drive and Wingrove Road North. The parish church was designed by Edward Eric Lofting, Assistant Surveyor to the fabric of Westminster Abbey, in the 'Arts and Craft' style.[1] It is thought that parts of the church were built with stone from Newcastle prison, in Carliol Square, which was demolished around the same time. The parish church was paid for by Sir James Knott in memory of his sons James and Basil, who were both killed in First World War.[2] The church is Grade II listed on the National Heritage List for England.
