Catton Methodist Church

Catton Methodist Church is located on the main road (B6295) through Catton on the left-hand side of a small crossroads at the bottom of the hill. It was built in 1882 as a Primitive Methodist chapel and was previously known as Catton Lane Foot Chapel. It replaced an earlier church, which stood on a site at the opposite side of the road to the new church. The old church building served as a Sunday school for a time, then was later demolished. The new church stood on land donated by the local landowner, W.B. Beaumont. It was built in Gothic style, reminiscent of Allendale Hall. It could seat 160 and cost £500 to build. It originally had an ornate wooden spire, but this had to be taken down in the late 1980s because of rot problems.
