Stocksfield Civil Parish

The Civil Parish includes the village of Stocksfield and the hamlets of Apperley Dene, BroomleyHindley, Kipperlyn, New Ridley, Old Ridley, Ridley Mill, and Wheelbirks.

Prior to 1866, Broomley and its surrounding area had been a township in the ancient parish of Bywell St Peter's, whilst Stocksfield Hall was a township in the ancient parish of Bywell St Andrew's. From 1866, Broomley and Stocksfield Hall both became civil parishes, though with Stocksfield Hall having a much smaller population at that time. In 1887, Stocksfield Hall civil parish was abolished and absorbed into Broomley, and there were also boundry changes with the adjecent parishes of Healey and of Mickley.

The name of the Civil Parish has changed over time, reflecting the growth of Stocksfield. On the 1st of April 1955, the parish was renamed from "Broomley" to "Broomley and Stocksfield". Finally, the name of the Parish was officially changed to Stocksfield Civil Parish, on the 11th of January 2019.
