Backbarrow & Haverthwaite Civil Parish is located in the Leven Valley on the edge of the Lake District in Cumbria. It was previously called Haverthwaite Civil Parish. The main settlements in the parish are Backbarrow, Haverthwaite and Low Wood. Bigland Hall and the hamlet of Brow Edge are also within the parish. The population of the parish was 797 at the time of the 2011 Census.
