Auckland Park

Auckland Park is a village in County Durham, which is located about half a mile east of Bishop Auckland. The village developed during the 19th century in association with coal mining; there were numerous collieries in the area, including Auckland Park Colliery, which opened in 1864. The Methodist chapel in Auckland Park was built in 1893, and replaced an earlier "tin chapel".[1] Auckland Park is within Dene Valley Parish Council, which includes neighbouring former colliery villages; Coronation, Gurney Valley, Close House, Coundon Grange, Old Eldon, Eldon Lane and Bridge Place.[2]
