34-40 Grey Street, Newcastle


Gainsborough House, nos. 34-40 (even numbers), Grey Street was built in c.1836, designed by John Dobson for Richard Grainger as part of the redevelopment of the centre of Newcastle (1824 to 1841). The sandstone ashlar building was modified in c.1930 with a granite ground floor. It was originally houses with ground floor shops. The building is now owned by the Adderstone Group, providing businesses with 16,000 sq. ft of office space and a 9,700 sq. ft ground floor unit, currently (2023) occupied by Pizza Punks restaurant[1] (and previously Cafe Rouge). ​Nos. 34-40 Grey Street are Grade II* listed on the National Heritage List for England.
