William Searle Hicks (1849-1902)
William Searle Hicks (1849-1902), born in Dorset, was an architect who spent most of his career based in Newcastle. In 1866, he was articled to the Newcastle architects Thomas Austin & Robert James Johnson, who had recently taken over John Dobson's former practice. In 1875, Hicks became a partner, in what was then Austin, Johnson & Hicks. The partnership ended in 1882. In 1885, he went into partnership with Henry Clement Charlewood (1856-1943). Hicks was President of the Northern Architectural Association between 1891-1892.
