Wigton Conservation Area
The Conservation Area covers the historic centre of the market town of Wigton in Cumbria. The area is defined by its medieval street and market layout and includes 44 listed buildings and a significant number of Georgian-style houses. St. Mary's Church here has a history dating back to the 12th-century. The Moore Memorial Fountain (aka Market Cross) of 1872 stands in a prominent position at the junction of the two main roads (the B5302 and B5305). The Market and Market Hall remain a central hub for community, culture, and business in the town.
The Conservation Area was designated in 1977 and is designated to protect Wigton’s unique architectural character and medieval street layout.
