Whitehall Road Methodist Church, Gateshead


Whitehall Road Methodist Church is located on Whitehall Road in Bensham, Gateshead. The church was opened as Whitehall Road New Connexion Methodist Church on the 29th of February 1896. The congregation oriiginally worshiped at Bethesda New Connexion Chapel, which was built in 1836 in an open field in Barn Close (Prince Consort Road now runs over the site).[1] The new Gothic-style church, which could seat 550 people, was built by Mr Alex Pringle, who later built the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. The church was requisitioned by the military during the First World War.
