War Memorial
The war memorial in Keswick is located in a triangular area of land between Penrith Road, Station Street and the River Greta. The memorial dedicated to 109 local servicemen who lost their lives in the First World War was unveiled on the 21st of May 1922 in a ceremony attended by Lord Rochdale, Walter Swinburn and Reverend C.H. Lewin of St Johns Church.[1] The sculptor was Francis Derwent Wood (1871 -1926), who was born in Keswick. The memorial was re-dedicated on the 8th of November 1947 to commemorate 51 local men who lost their lives in the Second World War. The memorial is Grade II listed on the National Heritage list for England.
