The Leas
The Leas is a two and a half mile stretch of magnesian limestone cliffs and coastal grassland by South Shields. It is owned and maintained by the National Trust and stretches as far as Souter Lighthouse. The cliffs and rock stacks of Marsden Bay, including Marsden Rock, are home to nesting Kittiwakes, Fulmar, Cormorants, Shags and Guillemots. The Great North Run half marathon finishes on The Leas in South Shields.
