The Deanery and Prior's Tower, The Abbey, Carlisle
The Deanery and Prior's Tower (Nos. 5, 5a & 5b, The Abbey) faces Carlisle Cathedral. Prior's tower and adjoining hall range was originally built in the late 15th century for the Priory of St Mary. It also has adjoining stables. It has 17th century extensions and further extensions in 1853 by James Stewart. Later the building has been used as The Deanery, museum and flats. The rear of the building is on West Walls (road). The Deanery and Prior's Tower are Grade I listed on the National Heritage List for England.
