The Cranemakers, Carlisle
The Cranemakers is a public house on London Road, by the junction of Grey Street, in Carlisle. The building was originally constructed as a house in the 1830s/40s, and appears on 1842 Map of Carlisle. Later it became The Carleton private hotel. Then, in 1981, it opened as The Theakston public house. It changed name to The Cranemaker in 1990 after the demise of Cowans, Sheldon & Co. which was situated across the road (demolished in 1989). The Cranemakers is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England.
