The Britannia Inn, Elterwater
The Britannia Inn at Elterwater is a public house, restaurant and provides accommodation. The building dates from around the 17th century, with substantial modifications over the years.[1] It was originally a farm house and was converted to an Inn during the 19th century; Whitwell Mark Ltd, a Kendal based brewery, bought the freehold of the Britannia in 1896. The Inn used extensively by local quarrymen and workers from the nearby gun powder factory which closed in 1929.[2] The Britannia Inn is a Grade II listed building on the National Heritage List for England. Beers sold at the Britannia include Britannia Blond and Elterwater Gold, produced by the Langdale Brewing Company.
