Tesco Chimney, West Chirton

The 'Tesco Chimney' is located by the Tesco Extra store off Norham Road, on the West Chirton Industrial Estate, in North Shields. It is a surviving part of the Ministry of Supply munitions factory from the Second World War, which was located here. The red brick chimney is a prominent local land mark, visible from the Coast Road, and now has the name Tesco painted on it. The chimney is included on the List of Buildings, Parks and Gardens of Special Local Architectural or Historic Interest ('Local List') for North Tyneside.
