SUGLEY, a township, in the parish of Newburn, union, and W. division, of Castle ward, S. division of Northumberland, 3¾ miles (W.) from Newcastle; containing 212 inhabitants. It comprises the eastern portion of the village of Lemington

Sugley became a Civil Parish following the 1866 Poor Law Amendment Act. In 1931 Census the parish was recorded as having an area of 60 acres, and a population of 1,769. Sugley Civil Parish was abolished in April 1935 and became part of Newburn Civil Parish. Newburn Civil Parish / Newburn Urban District, along with other areas, became part of the metropolitan borough of Newcastle upon Tyne in April, 1974, following the Local Government Act 1972. The area is now unparished.
