Stockley, County Durham
Stockley is a distributed hamlet County Durham, located about 4 miles south-west of Durham (city). Stockley Home Farm is located on Stockley Lane, which runs almost 3 miles from Brancepeth to meet North Lane, near Crook. There is also a farm at Stockley Fell, north of Oakenshaw, and a tree plantation at Stockley Fell. There are earthwork remains of a settlement west of Brancepeth, believed to be the Medieval village of Stockley.[1] Historically, Stockley was a township in the ancient parish of Brancepeth. Stockley was a civil parish between 1866 and 1937. Today, Stockley is part of Greater Willington Civil Parish.
STOCKLEY, a township, in the parish of Brancepeth, N. W. division of Darlington ward, union, and S. division of the county of Durham, 4¾ miles (S. W. by W.) from Durham; containing 53 inhabitants. It comprises about 1160 acres: the village is situated near the source of a rivulet to which the township gives name. The tithes have been commuted for £49.
