Stephenson Building


The Stephenson Building at Newcastle University is located on Claremont Road. The current building opened in September 2023. It was built to be a School of Engineering hub for research, learning and engagement. The £68.75m, 4 storey building was designed to include innovative teaching and social spaces, workshops, laboratories, offices, computer clusters and maker spaces. It replaced the Old Stephenson Building of 1951 (the east wing of the old building was incorporated into the new building). The building is named after the renound engineer, George Stephenson. The building won a RICS national award in October 2025.
