Stargate
Stargate is a village adjacent to Ryton in the Borough of Gateshead, located about a mile west of Blaydon. Stargate grew in association with Stargate Colliery, which operated between c.1800 and 1963. The colliery owners built the first houses in the village for the miners and their families. A Wesleyan Chapel was built in 1877. In the later 19th century there was also a brickyard in Stargate. The bricks were marked "S.C.C.", the initials of the Stella Coal Company, which owned the colliery.[1]
